Saint Agnes Food Pantry

Please join us Saturday morning, January 26, for our monthly Food Pantry.   The Dare To Care food truck will arrive at 9:00 a.m. and the driver will offload our food inventory with a pallet jack.   We will unwrap, arrange and set out the food items.   We’ll begin serving guests at 10:00 a.m. and the pantry will remain open until 11:30 a.m.

Simulating a grocery store experience, guests will select their food and use grocery carts to transport the selected items to their cars.  In operating the Pantry, volunteers will assemble food on the tables; collect and break down packaging materials for the recycle dumpster; welcome guests and provide assistance transporting food to their cars; retrieve grocery carts from the parking lot; assist with clean-up; and return tables and carts to their proper locations, etc.

On December 22, the St. Agnes Food Pantry hosted 184 families, benefiting a total of 524 people, including 9 service veterans.   The Pantry was staffed by 50+ parish volunteers and our eighth grade students contributed by  donating a good supply of toiletry items and working the Pantry.   Several Brownies managed the used book table while Assumption student, Claire O’Bryan and eighth grade student, Elizabeth Overly played Christmas tunes on the piano.   Mike Frick arrived early and, using items from our Pantry delivery, prepared a pot of delicious bean and ham soup which was distributed to guests and volunteers.   In addition to fresh produce including apples, carrots, kale, onions, peppers and potatoes, each guest received a spiral cut honey ham, donated by Dare to Care.   When it appeared we were going to run short on hams, a few volunteers made a quick run to Kroger and returned with just enough for our remaining guests.   Finally, a small surplus of fresh produce was delivered to St. Vincent DePaul for its pantry operation.
